Excess Luggage South Africa is part of Daigon, the South African clearing, freight and courier group. We ship luggage and personal effects for travellers, students and families moving abroad, so you avoid paying airline excess fees for everything you own.
You pack, we collect from your door, prepare the export documents and deliver abroad through our partners.
Two Options
Door to Airport or Door to Door
Door to airport (CFR): recommended
Includes collection, customs clearance in South Africa, airline handling in South Africa and transport to the destination airport. You clear it and collect it at the destination.
Excludes destination clearance, depot or terminal charges at the destination, storage and examination fees if stopped, and AMS filing for sea freight to the USA.
Door to door (DAP)
Available to some countries only, and much more expensive. Includes collection, delivery to your door abroad, customs clearance in South Africa and at the destination, airline handling and all transport fees.
Excludes storage and examination fees if customs stops the shipment, and AMS filing for sea freight to the USA.
Our tip: save by clearing it yourself
Door to airport is by far the cheaper option. You pay the airline handling fee at the destination, process customs yourself with your passport and the inventory, and collect your baggage at the airport. Ask us for both prices and we will tell you what the destination's customs office will ask for.

Air cargo is charged on the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight (length x width x height in cm, divided by 6000). Sea groupage is charged by volume in cubic metres, with a minimum charge. Rough guide only; the quote is based on the measured pieces.

How It Works
Five Simple Steps

Send us the destination, the number of pieces and their sizes. We reply on working days with the options.
Packing
Sturdy boxes and suitcases travel best. Pack them yourself, fill each box to the top and tape every seam.
Collection
Our driver collects and weighs everything, and you get a receipt.
Export clearance
We lodge the export documents with SARS Customs and hand the shipment to the airline or shipping line.
Arrival
You clear and collect at the destination airport, or, where offered, pay more for door-to-door delivery.
What You Can Send
Packing Rules
Packaging we accept
Suitcases and travel bags, trunks, cardboard boxes, and large plastic containers that are properly sealed, taped or shrink-wrapped. Pieces must show no outer damage.
Not allowed
Medication; food and drink, including sweets, biltong, wine and other alcohol, and canned food; aerosols, hair spray, perfume containing alcohol and other flammable items.
Check with us first
Batteries, including those inside devices: airlines need special declarations and labelling. CDs, DVDs and disks: personal recordings only, and some countries restrict them.
Carry with you
Passports, cash, jewellery, prescription medicine, laptops and anything irreplaceable.

Yes. Strong double-wall cartons travel well and are often cheaper than suitcases because they are lighter.
Flammable items, aerosols, loose lithium batteries, weapons, perishable food and some medicines are restricted. Cash, jewellery and important documents are better carried with you.
Often, especially once you are past one or two extra bags, but it depends on the airline, the route and the weight. Send us the details and compare our quote with the airline's fee.
